Cityscape

Cityscape The backdrop for this painting is an immense metropolis. Each time I view it, I find my eyes playing among the building peaks and I realize anew how high in the air I must be. I gaze at the evening traffic setting ablaze the streets far below. Honking horns and revving engines are silent from where I’m perched.

Then. I begin to see the scene I’ve been gazing through.

Who are these figures? What has brought them here? They, too, are gazing out at the city. And what of the city gazing back at them? They’re each one sensuous, yes, but really quite ordinary, quite unpretentious. And what of the neon stools they’re sitting on and leaning against? Are they real? Is any of this real?

Perhaps this is nothing more than a figure study with a city backdrop.

I’ll let you decide.
