Sculptures – GALLERY II
I once attended a drum clinic with my son, back when he was a drummer in the high school jazz band. The clinic instructor, after giving a stunning drum solo demonstration, was asked by a student why, during the solo, he had frequently changed back and forth between holding the drum sticks using the “traditional grip” and the “matched grip.”
The instructor replied, “I change grips while I play because, each time I do, it causes me to think completely different thoughts.”
As an artist, the same thing happens to me when I change mediums. I think completely different thoughts. If you look at my paintings and look at my sculptures, you’ll find certain similarities in the managing of space. But when doing sculpture—and I believe you’ll agree—I do think completely different thoughts.
