In my work as an artist, I've come to see that making art and making excuses are pretty much the same thing. They are for me, anyway.

I find myself making excuses all the time.

I make up excuses to put lines on paper and colors on a canvas. I make excuses to drag an oil bar across a freshly gessoed board. To develop a figure, bathed in light. To create things for no reason other than to just do it.

You see, nothing but excuses. I like good excuses!
